2024 TASKFORCE

 Tipswalo Day is an obstetrician and Consultant gynaecologist who has been involved in several initiatives to address racial disparities in maternity care, including: 

• Organizing the 2023 and 2024 “Race Matters in Maternity” conference Day led the organization of the conference, which secured partnerships and drove conversations about racial disparities in perinatal care. 
• Developing an inclusive Perinatal Risk and Governance framework Day co-produced the framework to enhance staff engagement and reduce adverse neonatal outcomes. 
• Arranging webinars Day arranged webinars to discuss the impact of race, ethnicity, and cultural heritage in maternity outcomes. 
• Receiving the Royal College of Midwives (RCM) Wales Quality Improvement Award Day was recognized for her work in addressing inequalities for pregnant women with learning disabilities. 

Day's work has earned her multiple accolades, including the 2023 HSJ Patient Safety Award. She continues to advocate for systemic changes in maternity care. 

Other initiatives to address racial disparities in maternity care include: 

• Black Maternity Matters A collaboration that supports perinatal staff to reduce inequitable maternity outcomes. 
• The RCM's Race Matters campaign A campaign to acknowledge and act upon discriminatory attitudes and behaviors towards those working in and receiving midwifery care. 
• The RCM's Turning the Tide mentorship platform A platform that gives maternity staff the opportunity to match with a mentor from different backgrounds and professions.
